Coast Hotels 9th Just Golf Tournament & Dinner Party
The Ninth Annual Coast Hotels Just Golf Tournament & Dinner Party took place on Wednesday, September 7, 2011, under sunny skies at the University Golf Course. Some 96 golfers participated, and 25 more joined them for dinner. This year's event raised more than $40,000.00 for the Just Aid Foundation.

| There was a little shade. | Lisa Southern & Adam Charania - volunteers par excellence - greeted golfers at the mullies / gimmes table |
Golfers received golf gloves as tee gifts, and purchased gimmes and mulligans to lower their scores. On-course activities included a 50-50 putting contest, a martini bar and smoked salmon gifts from Langara Fishing Adventures. Jonker Auto Group sponsored two hole-in-one contests, with a Nissan Juke and a Honda Fit as prizes. Langara Fishing Adventures sponsored a hole-in-one contest for a trip for two to Langara Fishing Lodge. Other on-course contests were for Women’s Closest to the Pin sponsored by Harris & Company; Women’s Longest Drive sponsored by Murray Clemens QC and Nathanson Schachter & Thompson LLP; Men’s Closest to the Pin sponsored by Fiorillo Flavin Gordon Lawyers; and Men’s Longest Drive sponsored by Solvit Dispute Resolution.
After golf, participants joined other guests in the Salon Room for cocktails, dinner and a silent auction. Grand Prize raffle and 50/50 tickets were sold during the festivities. The event was emceed by the accomplished and incomparable Gary Moser. Everyone enjoyed a West Coast Barbecue Dinner buffet of Alberta beef tenderloin and wild salmon, with local vegetables, salads and a magnificent dessert selection.
 | Gary Moser has had a long and distinguished career as a labour relations professional, public sector manager and negotiator, and now a consultant. It is difficult to believe he found the time, but he can also golf!
Here he is, demonstrating sound chipping form. |
The Just Aid speaker was Mike Orders. Mike is a Director of the Foundation, has been going to Southeast Asia as often as possible for many years, and he has been working with several NGOs on the Thai/Burma border for ten years. In his day job, Mike is a BCGEU rep in the organization’s negotiations department. He spoke of the incredible work of the two health care providers supported by the Foundation: the Mae Tao Clinic and Back Pack Health Worker Team.
Mike’s game was pretty good on this day too. Here’s his back swing:
Golfers who purchased raffle tickets at registration were eligible for random prizes that were awarded after dinner. These prizes included books, DVDs, CDs, hotel stays, golf merchandise and rounds of golf. The Grand Prize of two nights’ accommodation and breakfast in a two-bedroom suite at the Coast Blackcomb Suites in Whistler was awarded through a random raffle draw of tickets sold at the dinner tables. The winning ticket was drawn by Kevin O’Neill for O’Neill Hotels & Resorts, which donated the prize. The winner of the grand prize was Mark Phillips. The 50/50 draw of $325.00 was won by Neil Bradbury, and Peter Czizsar won the putting contest prize of $65.00.
 | Kevin O’Neill, who drew the name of the grand prize winner, with Tomi Eeckhout on his right and Faskens colleagues Bruce Grist and Bill Duvall on his left. |
 | Neil Bradbury won the 50/50. He’s in white, assisting his mates with the putting line. Much appreciated no doubt. |
 | Peter Czizsar, winner of the putting contest, watching his drive on the 5th. Unfortunately for Peter, it was the tee box for the women’s long drive competition. |
Winners of the competitive hole contests each received a $200.00 gift certificate to Keg Restaurants.

|
 | The most honest foursome, from the BCNU, obviously enjoying themselves. If they seemed to be having the most fun, is there a lesson here?
